Established in 1989, Highfield is a boutique Marlborough winery making ultra premium food friendly wines for restaurants and fine wine stores.
Highfield is owned by Shin Yokoi and Tom Tenuwera. From the outset, Shin and Tom have had high aspirations for Highfield, establishing an international brand associated with quality the world over.
Talented Kiwi winemaker, Alistair Soper makes Highfield’s classic Marlborough wines with a commitment to consistency of quality and style. Limited production, defined styles and rigorous de-classification ensures wines of elegance and finesse. Individual grape and soil characters are respected and reflected in the generous Highfield wines.
Highfield traditionally makes; Elstree Cuvée Brut, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling.
Highfield uses only free run juice for its wines; the rest it de-classifies; a very expensive and indulgent decision on the part of the owners, but one welcomed by Alistair. “This makes my job a pleasure. I get to work with only the best resources and don’t have to compromise. Another standout feature is that Highfield wines are aged on yeast lees to gain palate weight and texture, creating a more food-friendly style”.
Highfield is surrounded by a beautiful 5 acre pinot noir block, where some of their best pinot noir grapes come from. Other grapes are contracted off local grape growers situated in the Omaka Valley, Brancott Valley, Dillions Point and throughout the Wairau Valley, all sub-regions of Marlborough.
It’s not hard to see why Highfield is one of the most visited wineries in Marlborough. Situated on the Brookby Ridge and signposted by the iconic tower (that visitors are welcome to climb) the award winning cellar door and restaurant offers a sensational wine and food experience with views to match.
