Highfield Winery News - October 2004

Hi everyone

Its that time of year again. We have just released our 2004 Sauvignon Blanc. It is purely free run juice again and a very soft tropical fruit style with grapefruit and lime. It will be great with fresh shellfish or Mediterranean cuisine. Our winemaker, Al Soper, is confident this year's Sauvignon Blanc will be a stand-out and one of his best. This fabulous wine is available for purchase online or from our cellar door. An order form is enclosed in this email. Be quick and you could be enjoying the wonderful flavours this weekend.

2004 has been a hugely successful year for the team at Highfield Estate. Here's just a selection of occassions our wines have been involved in this year:

In January we hosted a lunch at the winery restaurant for the Pinot Noir 2004 conference with the wines matched to three Pinot vintages.

First course was Gamemeat and Pistachio Terrine with Grilled Ciabatta and Smoked Tomato Chutney. Second course a Roma Tomato and Goats Cheese Tart with Caramelised Shallots, Mesculin and Maple Balsamic Dressing. Third course Warm Aromatic Duck on a Salad of Roast Beets, Shaved Fennel and Orange with a Cinammon and Anise Dressing.

We still have a limited number of Pinot Noir 2001 six-packs but, be in quick we only have 20 cases left.

In February the Sauvignon Blanc 2003, the Chardonnay 2001 and the 1998 Elstree Cuvee mixed with Hollywood at the Oscar Party for the Lord of the Rings held by New Line Cinema and the New Zealand Consulate at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

In March we left Beverly Hills to New York where our Pinot Noir 2001 was showcased at the 100th Anniversary Dinner of the Explorer's Club in honour of Sir Edmund Hilary, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.

In April we officially released our Chardonnay 2001 which has mealy and citrus aromas combining with a smooth textured palate to make this wine well suited to slow cooked poultry or small game. Also during April the 2003 Sauvignon Blanc won another gold at the Royal Easter Show in Auckland.

In May we completed the 2004 harvest our biggest ever and we were all excited with the flavours we experienced. The harvest was late due to a very wet February, but, the end results look excellent.

Now for some great news for those of you in the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.

Highfield Estate has recently established a domestic delivery service in each of these three countries, eliminating the costly export freight charges. To order wine simply email me restaurant@highfield.co.nz and I will email the appropiate order form for your country.

Good news too for Kiwis, we still deliver for free in New Zealand. Just click on the banner above or fill out the form below.

In the mean time, I hope you all like our new news letter format. Any feed back would be appreciated.
I Look forward to seeing you all at the winery soon or responding to any questions you have.

Best wishes
