Pinot Noir Triumph - March 2005

 Hi everyone

We are delighted to be able to share some great news with you in this newsletter.

Firstly, the Highfield Pinot Noir 2002 recently won the Best Pinot Noir of Competition at the 2005 Sydney International Wine Competition which involved 2000 wines from all the major wine producing countries of the world.

The Highfield Pinot Noir was among the top 5% highest scoring wines of competition which involves entries being judged against an appropriate food match. Our match was 'Tartlets with Leeks in a Bechamel sauce and Quail Breasts'.

Judge Ivan Donaldson "a real impression of sweetness of fruit. It was quite a big, plump wine and seductive."

Fellow judge Sue Van Wycke said the wine was" medium dark garnet. Spicy, charry, smoked meat bouquet. Very fragrant. Spicy, rich and sweetly smooth on the palate. Fine structure and depth."

At the same competition the Highfield Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2004 won a highly sought after 'Blue Gold' and was matched with a 'Roulade of Salmon Sea Bass Ceviche, watercress, Rocket Zucchini Sauce'.

Judge Darryl Beeson described the wine as having" aromas of spice, green pepper and grapefruit. Flavours of grapefruit, lemon zest, spice, cooked red bell pepper in the complex, long finish." His associate, Stephen Brooke said it had " a lean gooseberry nose. Fresh and light on the palate. Tangy. Gritty acidity. Invigorating and perky with good length."

Just recently this same wine won yet another Gold Medal at the 2005 Royal Easter Wine Awards as did the newly released Chardonnay 2002.

The Highfield Marlborough Chardonnay 2002 has subtle oak, nectarine and peach aromas and is available for $32.50 from the winery.

And at the recent Wines of tha Pacific Rim Interantional Wine Competition 2005 in Hong Kong, both our Pinot Noir 2002 and the Sauvignon Blanc 2004 won Gold Medals taking their respective tallies a trophy plus 3 Gold Medals and 5 Gold Medals.

In February we celebrated the tenth anniverasry of our Sir Michael Fowler designed tower with a ball. This spectacular event was attended by guests from all over the world who enjoyed a five course degustation dinner created by our chef de cuisine, Simon Kelly.

As you can see, Highfield Estate has plenty to celebrate and if you have a celebration looming, our Elstree Cuvee Brut 1998 is the perfect bubbly choice. We are currently offering a six pack of this acclaimed wine to New Zealand based customers for $120 which represents a massive saving of $60.

We hope to see you at the winery again soon and welcome mail, fax or online orders or enquiries.

You should order the "Best Pinot Noir" and this year's most awarded Sauvignon Blanc for your cellar while stocks last.

In the meantime, best wishes from the team at Highfield Estate..
