Less than a month after being release, Highfield Estate’s Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has already won gold.
The wine was awarded a gold medal at the 2004 Christchurch Casino Sauvignon Blanc First Taste Awards at the casino last night (28th October).
The awards are in their ninth year and celebrate the annual Sauvignon Blanc vintage. The organisers say this year’s event attracted a record 83 entries from the South Island. The wines were judged by respected wine industry members Terry Copeland, Ivan Donaldson and Graham Watson.
Highfield Estate’s winemaker Alistair Soper is delighted with his wine’s early success. “We are delighted to win gold less than a month after release. We had a very favourable season which produced some great fruit with characteristic Sauvignon Blanc expression and obviously the judges thought so as well.â€
The 2004 Highfield Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is one of eight wines the Blenheim winery has entered into this year’s Air New Zealand Wine Awards which will be announced on Saturday 13th November.
The 2004 Highfield Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is available nationally and retails for approximately NZ$24.
